Welcome to Year One!
Teacher - Miss Maw
Teaching Assistant- Mrs Dawson
This term our Topic is ' We are going to the zoo!'
As we move into the the second part of the Spring term we continue to learn about amazing animals! We had a great visit to Whipsnade Zoo and are already looking forward to Zoolab coming into school to show us some weird and wonderful animals! Over the next half term we are going to focus on Art and Design Technology. The children are going to make a make a bird feeder and design, make and evaluate an enclosure for a Zoo animal. We are going to be looking at the 'Great Animal Mix Up' by Gareth Edwards and create our own mixed up animal. We continue to be scientist and look at comparing different animals, what is the same or different? An action packed half term with lots to learn and look forward too!
Week beginning 25th March 2019
This week we are going to finish off our animal fact files and then enjoy the story 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea' to help us learn about plurals. We will be writing our own shopping lists.
We are starting a 3 week unit on multiplication and division. The children will look at counting in 2's 5's and 10's, explore making equal groups, arrays, division by sharing and a range of problem solving for multiplication and division calculations.
Alder Class Reminders
We have at the moment a lot of missing jumpers and cardigans. Please help by clearly labelling EVERYTHING! If it has a name in it is so easy to find and get back to the right person.
If you have lost a jumper or cardigan Miss Maw has a green box in her classroom, please come in at the end of the day to have a look.
On a Monday afternoon- full PE kit is needed please.
All children need a named water bottle in school
In Year One we just love to read- stories, Guided reading and individual reading! Please help us by making sure your child has their reading book and diary with them everyday. We like to write comments in your child's diary but it makes assessment records hard if they don't have it with them and you don't know they have read with an adult. Thank you!
As part of our Design and Technology learning this half term the children will be making bird feeders and Zoo animal enclosures. If you have any shoe boxes, small boxes, plastic bottles or containers at home that you do not need, we would be very grateful! Thank you!
Children will bring home new spellings for this half term on Friday 1st March Look out for them in your child's homework books!
