Welcome to Year One!
This half term our Topic is called 'Magic Carpet'
This Topic takes the children on lots of magical adventures. As we use the popular magic carpet Disney Aladdin's inspiration the children will learn about the our country the United Kingdom. The children will have a chance to be geographers to learn about human and physical Geography through the story ' Town Mouse, Country Mouse. As we fly around we will learn about different countries, culture and languages. The children will have a go at some Aboriginal Art work and of course make their own colourful magic carpet through the art of weaving. Alder class will also be visiting Russia to the World Cup 2018 to learn about this exciting current football competition. We cant wait to jump aboard!!!
Week beginning 16th July 2018
This week ...
Fantasy story- 'whatever Next' by Jill Murphy. We are practising to get to know the story really well through drama, retelling, story props and sequencing. We are also thinking about the character of the owl and how we could thank him for coming on baby bears journey.
Money- coin recognition, making different money amounts, adding money to make a total and using our money skills to host our own themed shop. We will finish our unit of work solving money problems.
On a Monday afternoon- full kit is needed please.
-Please encourage your child to hand in their homework by Wednesday, in the classroom we have a red box as the children come through the door.
The weather next week still continues to be very hot. Please ensure your child has a named bottle of water in school which we can keep re filling throughout the day, a sun hat and sun cream on.
On Wednesday Year 1 went on a journey to Beatty Woods and Bushmead Park. We had a fantastic afternoon in the sunshine in our community.All children showed our THRIVE values and were proud to represent Bushmead Primary School during their learning trip.
The Year 1 team are very proud of all the children for their hard work and determination when sitting the Phonic Screening Check! We are very pleased with the results
