Welcome to Year One!
Teacher - Miss Maw
Teaching Assistant- Mrs Dawson
This term our Topic is all about Pirates!
As we move into the Summer term in Year 1 we are going to turn into a crew of Pirates!
This Topic allows the children to enjoy learning outside as they follow treasure hunts, follow clues using positional and directional language to play and create their own orienteering games. In the classroom we will be learning about map features and making our own pirate treasure maps. As great pirates, we need to know all about different materials and their properties. Miss Maw is also going to set us a challenge of making a boat out of tin foil- will it float or sink? Who can make the best boat to hold the most jewels without it sinking? Mixed in with all this fun we will be having a Pirate themed day and have the chance to make our own pirate hats and treasure chests.
Week beginning 8th July 2019
This week in English we are writing a recount about our amazing Pirate trip and continuing our Year One memory book about our best bits about being in Alder Class!
Linked to our Pirate topic we will be learning about fractions. This will involve children learning about halves and quarters of shapes and also halves and quarters of objects- pirate treasure!
Alder Class Reminders
We have at the moment a lot of missing jumpers and cardigans. Please help by clearly labelling EVERYTHING! If it has a name in it is so easy to find and get back to the right person.
If you have lost a jumper or cardigan Miss Maw has a green box in her classroom, please come in at the end of the day to have a look.
On a Monday afternoon- full PE kit is needed please.
All children need a named water bottle in school
Now the weather is starting to get warmer please ensure your child has a named sun hat in school
In Year One we just love to read- stories, Guided reading and individual reading! Please help us by making sure your child has their reading book and diary with them everyday. We like to write comments in your child's diary but it makes assessment records hard if they don't have it with them and you don't know they have read with an adult. Thank you!
