We made some fantastic rockets out of recyclable materials this week! Well done Lime class!
Our topic for this Autumn half term is...
To Infinity and Beyond!
In Topic we will be immersing ourselves in everything to do with Space! We will be learning all about the artist Peter Thorpe and creating our very own Space picture using his style for inspiration. We will be learning all about Apollo 11 and the moon landings alongside learning about the planets in the solar system. Towards the end of our topic we will be looking at the properties of different materials and thinking about what materials would be best to use to create a space suit (and giving good reasons why!). As a special treat during this topic, we have a visit from a mobile planetarium which promises to be a day full of Space related fun and learning!
In English we have been looking at non-fiction texts and in particular fact files. We are now in the process of gathering our own research about each planet and next week we will be creating our very own 'Space fact files!'
In Maths we have looked at addition and subtraction in isolation and we are now looking at addition and subtraction together - looking at each number sentence and word problem and really thinking about what each problem needs us to do. Then we can use whatever method works best for us to work out the answer (base ten drawings, resources, column method or mentally). We will also be completing our half termly test next week.
PE is on a Monday morning and a Wednesday afternoon and we will need black joggers, a white t-shirt, a black jumper/hoodie and trainers. Please remember to have your PE kit in school for EVERY PE session! Thank you! **New earring advice - please remove earrings before your child has PE. We are no longer allowed to tape earrings.
Homework is set on Fridays and is due in on Wednesdays. If your child doesn't bring their homework in on time, they will miss 5 minutes of their diamond time on a Friday.
Spellings will come home with homework and the test will be done on a Friday morning.
School Uniform - Children are expected to arrive at school in correct school uniform - Grey/Black Trousers/shorts/skirt (with cycling shorts underneath), white t-shirt and green Bushmead jumper. Black shoes (no trainers please!) and long hair should always be tied back. No nail varnish is allowed and please no bows in children's hair.
